Hello and thanks for taking the time out to read more about this exciting new role at the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. The borough has set itself a number of ambitious targets, including the construction of 50,000 new homes in the next 20 years and improvements in its position relative performance against a range of socio-economic indicators including employment, skills, education and income per capita.
Over the past two years we have been developing a completely new way of working in of Growth and Homes based on a commissioning model. We are taking a commercial approach to regeneration, asset management and investment in order to meet the council’s financial targets and exploit the considerable opportunities for regeneration and growth that exist in the borough.
We have already set up an arms-length regeneration company, Be First, and a number of new internal business units that will act in a commercial way to commissions from the council. This exciting new role will spearhead the development of strategies in the areas of Housing, Regeneration, Employment and Skills and Investment and be responsible for commissioning and monitoring work from the new business units.
This is a great opportunity to be in at the beginning of a ground-breaking approach to the management of these services in a council that is determined to succeed.
John East, Strategic Director for Growth and Homes
